By packaging and optimizing embedded speech technology components for open source distribution, we’ve given developers the opportunity to access speech solutions through open APIs using the Android platform and to easily upgrade to new, more advanced speech features as well. We believe deep collaboration with members of the Alliance will grow our core mobile business and fuel the proliferation of speech-enabled applications worldwide.” “Nuance joined the Open Handset Alliance with other industry leaders to grow the entire mobile ecosystem,” said Steve Chambers, president, mobile and consumer services division, Nuance Communications. “We’re committed to apply our strength and leadership in voice-based search and messaging to move the market forward. Comment on Return on Investment? — What about Return on Change? by Dave Kresta http://www.socialcomputing.org/archives/28#comment-22 Dave Kresta Mon, 16 Jul 2007 23:19:37 +0000 http://www.socialcomputing.org/archives/28#comment-22 Interesting idea, particularly looking at ROC or ROI in terms of scenarios that are enabled. However, even this won't appease "ROI Junkies" who need numbers (even though they know they are all wrong) in order to move forward. I believe that fixation on ROI is an artifact of the scientific management movement of the early to mid 1900s, along with the every present "command-and-control" structures that many organizations are still stuck in. I was for quite a while (still am, I suppose) an OD practitioner, after a more mainstream HR / org effectiveness consulting career. I have blogged a fair bit about eOD over the past year .. not always mentioning it by "name", but often enough the term has crept in. Lisa is an old friend of mine.
